Seven Years War Impression
Regiment von Zastrow, and in 1760, Regiment Prinz Friedrich
Although our unit regularly portrays Regiment von Riedesel of the American Revolution, we also attend events as our Seven Years War Impression, that of Regiment von Zastrow. However, in 1760 this unit would turn into Regiment Prinz Friedrich, which again in 1776 would become Regiment von Riedesel.
The impression is very similar, as the uniform did not change much over the years between the wars.
This musketeer wears a black wool felt hat, with a silver button, trimmed in white. The hat has a white hat cord, with white and yellow poms attached, one on each side and one in the front behind the silver button.
All members of Regiment von Riedesel are required to purchase a wig, with a queue, or "Zopf". Typically queues range in length of 10 inches, to a foot and a half. The wig is to be of your natural hair color, and wrapped in black cloth.
He wears a black neckstock, as the soldier is on campaign, however for dress, he would reverse it and wear the red side.
He wears white wool small clothes consisting of a waist coat and breeches, all with silver buttons. He also wears a white linen shirt underneath his waistcoat.
He wears black thigh high gaiters with silver buttons, that strap under the shoe, and are held in place with black leather garters worn below the knee,
He wears black leather shoes with brass buckles, that are partially covered by gaiters.
The regimental coat is made of Prussian blue wool, and features yellow cuffs, collar, shoulder strap, and facings. It also features silver buttons, and red turnbacks, as was the standard for all German line troops.

This musketeer wears the same equipment as his counterpart from the American Revolution.
Over the right shoulder he wears a cartridge box with a large white sling. The box features a brass plate in the middle, and holds 60 cartridges.
Over the left shoulder he wears a linen haversack secured with three pewter buttons. Inside he would carry his rations and other small items.
He also carries a cow hide tornister worn on a white leather strap secured with a brass buckle. The flap of the tornister is secured with two white leather straps with brass buckles. The tornister would include an extra shirt, socks, gaiters, and any personal items, as well as a forage cap.
Over the tornister he wears a canteen on a white linen strap. The canteen is made of tin, and lined with beeswax. It features a cup on top attached by a piece of leather. One in every four men would carry the canteen, as it was large enough to distribute to several men.
He wears a white waist belt, secured with a brass buckle with a frog for sword and bayonet. The sword is a British model, as the regiment received replacement items out of British stores, however most of our members do carry Prussian swords. All swords are to feature a white sword knot.
As the man is on guard he has his bayonet fixed, and must be on campaign for quite some time as his facial hair is far out of regulations.
All members of our regiment should be clean shaven, however properly trimmed mustaches are acceptable but not encouraged.
