Regiment von Riedesel Feld Musik
Each company of musketeers in the Regiment von Riedesel were assigned musicians to stay with the company. Alot of times, the musicians from different companies would all join together while on the march to play in a mass regimental band. But typically, each company featured three drummers, but there were fifers as well.
Currently our recreated regiment has three drummers, however due to their performances in other fife and drum corps they are not able to always play, so therefor we are always looking for musicians to join the regiment. If you are a fifer or a drummer, we would love to have you with Regiment von Riedesel.
The musicians of Regiment von Riedesel wear regimental coats made of yellow wool, the color of the facings on the coats worn by musketeers. The coats feature red turnbacks, and blue facings and cuffs, trimmed with white, yellow, and blue lace. They wear the same waistcoats and pants as any other member of the regiment. Their hats were also the same, but featured poms with reverse colors.
For accoutrements, they carried a sword worn on a waist belt, and they also carried haversacks made of linen and the standard cow hide tornister slung over the shoulder. The fifers carried brass fife cases, and the drummers used drums covered in brass, with the rims painted white, yellow, and blue, and featured white ropes.
The music they played was traditional Prussian music.. Sometimes in the field they would act as streatcher bearers, but were typically used to convey orders as well as maintain morale and order among the troops.
